The West African sub region from where WALS draws most it her members is bilingual. The tradition of the Society has been to alternate hosting rights between Anglophone and Francophone countries. After consultations with the President and Members of Council, the Secretary-Treasurer writes a formal Letter in response to the Letter of Commitment to Host from the head of the institution of the successful bidder. The host of the next West African Languages Congress (WALC 2023) is L’Université de Lomé in the Republic of Togo. WALC has been slated to hold between the 1st and 5th of August, 2023.
